Who do u think is smarter, light or L???

    Well, L was worldly known and famous yes, since when he was a child and whenever Light was in the middle of a plan L always seemed to know what was happening and bust him...but it was the same the other way around as well...I think they're both equal.

    Nah.L is better.He's older,has more experience,managed to get light at every turn.And to top it off,the only reason he died was because Light tricked a shinigami(Rem) into killing L for him.

    Wow, actually you're pretty much right...I agree!

    But I still KIND OF believe them to be equal, sure L has experience and all, raised around nothing BUT books and research right? But Light was never interested in most things because he knew it already, like first episode, he was bored with a class everyone struggled in, while L acts as if he learns something knew everyday...

    The only was L died WAS because of Rem, Light didn't truly win even though his plan worked.

    But those that were taught underneath Lawliet beat him in the end so... L has experience, Light has skills, and they're both pretty damn good.

    Well, Light and Ryuk aren't super close, but kind of "chat chat chat good friends but wont take a bullet for you" kind of. And...if Light and Ryuk were as close as Rem and Misa...the two would be gay.

    Well you didn't even ask that question...

    Then Light would probably have thought of another plan, Misa see's L's true name and simply writes it down...instead of dealing with it all. He only found out about the two's close relationship because Light threatened to kill Misa, and then Rem threatened back...so if He threatened again and Rem didn't say anything...wouldn't be too different.

    Right, Light used their relationship in a really depraved way. Forcing Rem to use the notebook to kill L so Misa would be safe, knowing what would happen to Rem afterwards.

    On the subject of Misa, how would the fight between Kira and L have turned out differently if Misa had never come into the picture? Would the lack of distractions and Misa's careless errors made everything run more smoothly for Light or not?

    I disagree. Light,While he has the powers of a shinigami, Also has to costantly deal with L's obsessive snooping and complete disregard for standered legal procedures.L even wanted to try out the death note for himself!

    L may not have the aid of a Shinigami, but as mentioned by mirukami, L goes beyond standard legal procedure with his investigations on Kira

    Right, but you also have to remember, Ryuk really wasn't much help to Light. Ryuk stated multiple times that he wasn't going to help Light or L either way. And the only reason he told Lightabout Raye Pember was for his own personal interests, not to help Light. In the end, L was definately the better of the two because he was outsmarting Light even before he knew where Kira was (tv broadcast with Lind L Tailor). L died because Light used the connection between Misa and Rem to his advantage.

    True, but the set of fake rules are another reason L died. And it was Ryuk who wrote the fake rules.

    I suppose you're right, I wasn't factoring in the fake rules. Still, the fake rules were a last minute decision by Light because he knew it would throw L off, but L was prepared as soon as he saw them. That's another thing that made L better. He was willing to test the Death Note with criminals, while Light (working as a police officer) sided with the others in the task force in that it was a waste of human life. If Rem hadn't killed L, Light and Misa would have been arrested in little over two weeks. At least that's my guess.

    I think L was smarter, he just let his guard down because he really wanted a friend and he falsely believed he'd found a friend in Light.

    Yeah, that one part where L claimed that Light was his first friend made me sad...I actually thought that Light would change his mind too...

    But yeah, I do believe it's unfair if it's two against one, especially if one of the people against you is a friggin' death god.

    Yes, but don't forget that L wasn't completely alone, he was part of an investigations team also after Kira and the fact that Ryuk doesn't really fight against L

    bUt he was alone..because back when L was alive...everyone wanted to prove Light innocent, L was all alone with his own thoughts.

    That is true...but just as L used his own resources to try and reveal Kira, Light also used Ryuk and Rem as his own resources, but i guess either way, having a death god as a resource IS unfair

    L may be smart, but Light has more power, so in theory it could be said that they are both equal.

    They have different personalities so they think differently, however they're not too different.
    L leaves a lot of possibilities open when it comes to solving the case so he's having a harder time.
    Light on the other hand is more organized and narrow-minded.

    In terms of power Light would be the one because well, he has the help of the death note and the shinigami wich is a supernatural power by itself, no human can compete with that. But when it comes down to intelligence i think its L, just think about the facts, he precisely find out the killer and where he lived without actually knowing how it killed or anything...not only that but he deduced it was a high school student, all that without any supernatural help...i think to be able to pinpoint something like that merely based on investigations and assumptions is quite an ability.

    L is much smarter then Light. For example, when they both got into the college, L used the name of a singer and told Light that he was L. This cornered Light by giving him two choices, both of which would lead to him being caught.

    1. Try to kill L with the fake name.
    2. Don't do anything.

    Trying to use the fake name could kill the singer, which would cause Light to be suspected even more since he was just told that L was using that guys name.

    Not doing anything would cause light to have a mental breakdown due to stress, causing him to draw attention to himself. He had a minor one when he got back after the ceremony.

    L had every move planned, where as Light just made it up as he went.

    These are of course just my opinions.

    Light was doing so well as Kira! His only two flaws were 1) He would kill those that suspected him, and 2) When he killed someone in person he would flat out tell them "I am Kira".

    When you consider that Light Yagami had to play the role of himself, KIRA, the second L and the second Watari in addition to being hunted by L, Near, Mello, the members of his own team, Matt and supposedly police all over the world... While simultaneously protecting Misa from her own stupid actions... I would say that Light is at least equal to L (if not surpassing him).

    However, L did figure out that Light was KIRA way before he let on suspecting him. Even the author says that when L said he suspected Light by "5%", he really suspected him by about "90%". So you have to respect Lawliet for that.

    That aside, my favorite is still Mello (^_^)

    survival of the smartest....their dangerous game of wits ended with Light killing L, so I would say Light.

    Unless you see the foresight of the Wammy's house, to find a successor ....then Light is still fighting him even after his death. So I guess whoever wins in the end (hasn't finished yet).

    L.

    Although Light has an advantage, with his shinigami. If it wasn't for Ryuuk I think Light would of been caught sooner.

    Light is immature and kills those who suspect him, which is usually a trap L set up.

    He jumped at the chance to kill 'L' without thinking of the possibilty that it could be a trap.

    I know that if I were in his situation at that time, I would of been suspicious, and killed the L-imposter a few days later or something like that. ^_^

    I believe that they are both quick thinkers, and they both have their strengths and weaknesses. L is definitely a genius, and Light is certainly a very smart individual. But L is lacking in social skills, so Light would have superior smarts in that area, and would be able to use that to his advantage. And L is able to calculate almost any situation in his head without fail. The fact that L was defeated by Light isn't necessarily an indication of who is more intelligent; Light had the help of a God of Death, which L could hardly do anything about.

    I know what you mean. He had two people who were severely devoted to him with the shinigami eyes. And although Misa was rather, erm, annoying, and Mikami was a bit extreme, they were both valuable assets.
    The only thing that L really had was his brain, and the brains of a few kids to help him out. Not exactly much of a fair fight, if you ask me.

    Light is better. There are no rules in this battle between L and Light. Do whatever is necessary to acquire the other person's true identity. Light was smart to manipulate Rem. L was totally beat.

    Hmm.. I think they are both equal, Light DID get L's identity and was smart enough to manipulate Rem.. but on the other hand, L knew he was Kira all along... He just, didn't have the evidence. Damn, I would like L to be better but they are both awesome. XD

    well i think about it like... L had light everytime he tired something he was always a step ahead ...like that time he was about to call misa before she was taken i for questioning L already took misa's phone and told them to arrest her.

    so i think L is smarter... the only reason he lost is cus light told Rem if she didnt help he'd kill misa or something.

    Light obviously is smarter than L. He did kill L after all. You may say that it was Rem that killed L, which is indeed true, but.. It was all according to Light's plan. It's not like he was just like: cool, Rem killed L! No.. Light set it up as to where Rem would be forced to kill L, so in the end, Light wins over L. You might say L won because of Near, but remember the topic is L vs Light, not Light vs Near.

    Umm... Kira our Savior does have a point, though... Rem didn't kill L for Light. She was forced to, to protect Misa.

    Then again... Near didn't actually catch Light for L, either. He did it for himself.

    L > Light > Near...(near is just using all L's evidence and before L died...he probably already know light is kira but can't find enough evidence to take him in...)

    I honestly think that Light is smarter, just because he outsmarted L. Granted, L was on Light's trail the whole way, but he was always one step behind. The one who outsmarted Light was Near. So I think he pwns them both. : )

    Point taken, but if L had outsmarted Light, he wouldn't be dead. He would have figured it out before he was going to be killed. Light made sure he stayed one step ahead. That's why I say he outsmarted him. But yes, I see your point, Near was only able to defeat Light with the help of Mello and L but, regardless, he defeated him so I still think Near pwnes.
